OPERATIONS ASSOCIATE
Canal Capital Management, a registered investment advisor managing $1.3 billion in assets, is seeking an experienced trader to join our team in Richmond, Virginia.
Position Overview
We are looking for a seasoned operations professional that is capable of performing multiple functions, including trading, account maintenance and compliance. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with strong analytical skills to support our continued growth and commitment to client success.
Trading Responsibilities
- Execute trades across multiple investments for individual client portfolios while ensuring best execution and maintaining detailed documentation
- Monitor and rebalance portfolios to maintain target allocations and implement investment strategies
- Conduct comprehensive stock research and analysis to support investment decisions
- Perform daily reconciliation of trades and maintain accurate records of all trading activities
- Assist in developing and implementing trading strategies across the firm
- Monitor market conditions and identify trading opportunities
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and firm policies
- Collaborate with portfolio managers to optimize trading efficiency
- Prepare regular trading reports and performance analytics
Account Maintenance Responsibilities
- Perform daily reconciliation and coding of all transactions from prior day
- Maintain accounting and performance for the firm’s alternative investments
- Maintain data aggregation credential for the firm’s account aggregation software
- Maintain and generate quarterly reports
- Establish new accounts and securities in the firm’s portfolio accounting software
- Assist Chief Compliance Officer in a variety of functions
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, or related field
- Minimum of 3-5 years of trading experience, preferably at an RIA or similar financial institution
- Series 65
- Proficient in trading platforms and financial software
- Strong understanding of financial markets and various asset classes
- Excellent analytical and quantitative skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Superior attention to detail and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with portfolio management software
- Knowledge of risk management principles
- Understanding of trade execution strategies
